Barrie’s brand new All Girls division got off to an exciting start this weekend as the Killer Bees faced the Red Hot Devils. Rosie O’Neill scored the league’s first goal just 24 seconds into the game, while Avery Lowe recorded the division’s first win in net for the Devils.

The first two periods had some great back-and-forth action. Jullian Sanzsole tied the game up on an incredible one-timer before Taylor MacMillan gave the Bees a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Megan Sobey responded for the Devils ninety seconds later. The game remained tied for a long stretch with Bee’s goalie Cheyenne Sellers-Rice making a number of excellent saves. O’Neill and Sobey finally broke through the Bees’ goaltending late in the period to give the Devils a 4-2 lead heading into the third.
Both goalies were tested often in the third period, until an O’Neill breakaway put the Devils up 5-2. Sobey’s third goal extended the lead to 4 but the Bees refused to give up. Lowe was tested repeatedly as the Bees controlled the final two minutes of play, but held strong en route to the 6-2 win.
O’Neill led the way for the Devils with 3 goals and 2 assists. Olivia Blouin contributed 4 assists in the game, and Sobey added an assist to her hat trick. MacMillan led the Bees with 2 points, while Emily Lejambe, Hailie Forbes, and Tori Gaudente had assists in the game.
The Spring Girls division will run during April and May. This summer, the league will expand into three age groups (8-10, 11-13, 14-16). If your daughter is interested in joining this amazing new division or to get more information, please e-mail Mike Browning at mikebrowning@ballhockey.com.
