The Barrie Colts/Fireantz Ball Hockey Club completed back to back tournament Championships this last weekend winning the International Maple Leaf Cup Tournament in Niagara Falls. With a little help from our local opposition, the team lineup was boosted with a fantastic group of kids eager to engage in top level competition.

Opening with a tough loss to a solid New Jersey EHT squad, it was an uphill battle all of the way through. Barrie rebounded with a convincing win vs St. Catherines Cyclones in their second game. A decisive third game victory set the stage for a head to head semi final battle vs. the US National champions from Leominster Mass. Barrie scored midway through the second and held on for a stunning 1-0 victory. Abe Holmes fired the deflected winner into the net. This victory earned Barrie entry into the finals vs. the hometown Niagara Falls squad in 35 Celcius heat .

The final game was a test of systems and wits and Barrie opened the scoring with a Braydon Booth shot in the second frame. Niagara replied later in the second and the teams entered the third tied at one. With 2 minutes to play, Cam Cochrane found an open Noah Palmen in the slot and he buried the snap shot to ice the win for the locals.

This capped off a 24-3 season with tournament wins in Niagara Falls and Boston.

Team members are: Braeden Butcher, Marissa Browning, Matt Booth, Mack Chapman, Gavin White, Mackenzie Young, Cam Cochrane, Noah Palmen, Austin Purcell, John Ruffolo, Braydon Booth, Abe Holmes and Matt McDonald.

Coaches Chris Butcher, Mike Browning and David Booth thank the support of parents and the Barrie Ballhockey Club for making this possible..
