OSHAWA — Oshawa captured its first peewee AA provincial title in ball hockey since 2001 by downing Newmarket in the championship game played in Oshawa in July.
Facing a division consisting of Penetang, Newmarket, Brampton and West Hill, the team struggled to get through round-robin play, but stepped it up come playoff time.
A semifinal against the reigning champs, Penetang, sparked the boys to rally and win 3-2 to advance to the AA championship, where they defeated Newmarket.
"I still can't get the smile off my face,” said head coach Sean McGuire in a press release.
Success in the tournament also went to Oshawa atom A for winning the A title, atom B for winning the B championship and the peewee B team for capturing the top BB spot.
The all-girls’ round-robin for U10, U12, U14 and U16 resulted in the U12s securing the gold medal and U10, U14 and U16 taking the silver. History was made when a second U14 girls’ team played in the main tournament.
In previous provincial play in Mississauga, Oshawa’s tyke team advanced to the AA semifinal and the novices took the A crown.
Oshawa Ball Hockey has now finished another very successful season.
